To Eco- Or Not To Eco-

That is the question.
Understanding that a coffeehouse, even one as small as mine, generates a lot of waste, I’ve been researching eco-friendly cups, lids, bags, and take-out boxes.  Of course “green” equals “way more expensive” so I’d have to make up the additional expense…somewhere…and generally it means charging more for menu items.  Which isn’t the [...]

Cupcakes? But Of Course Cupcakes!

We will be closed Monday, January 1 for the holiday and will re-open on Tuesday.  With cupcakes.
Chocolate and vanilla, with various frostings.  Right now, the cupcake menu is as follows:

Chocolate cupcakes with dark chocolate espresso buttercream
Chocolate cupcakes with peppermint buttercream
Vanilla cupcakes with lemon buttercream
Vanilla cupcakes with milk chocolate buttercream
Vanilla cupcakes with vanilla buttercream

And yes…if I [...]

Good Morning!

As we quickly approach the new year, I’ve been thinking about changing the menu around a little.  Salads are gone — I’ll bring them back in the Spring when the produce is better and fresher, and there are more interesting locally grown items.  Right now it’s all about the root vegetables — great in a casserole [...]

I’m So In Love!!

I had the most wonderful visitor today.  Carma, from Carma’s Cafe in Charles Village.  She’s absolutely one of the nicest people — with a sharp wit, and (ahem) the ability to honestly critique a menu item without being insulting.  If you’re in Charles Village anytime soon, I highly recommend you visit the cafe.  No, I’ve [...]

Live Blogging and Better Meat

So I broke down and ordered DSL for the coffeehouse.  One thing I hate…I have to stand at my POS terminal, since I don’t have a wifi router. So…maybe I need to break down again and buy a router.   Hmmm….
As promised in an earlier post, I have a new ham for the sandwiches — it’s a [...]

Happy Holidays!

We will be closed Monday, December 25th and Monday, January 1st for the holidays.  To all of our customers and friends who have supported us and made us laugh over the past year of planning, building, shopping, and all of the general craziness — thank you.  May your holidays be peaceful and happy, and may [...]

Changes To The Menu

Due to a terrific response, the roasted veggie panino will be a permanent fixture and no longer just a special.  I’m also changing the bread lineup — the ciabatta rolls, while wonderful, have gotten a mixed response…making me think they’re not as popular as they should be.
So from now on, I’ll be offering both cold [...]

It Had To Happen Sooner Or Later…

I finally had a very dissatisfied customer.
I knew it would happen one day.
I should clarify something, I guess…for the customers who perhaps don’t understand what I’m trying to do.  Because there’s at least one person out there who doesn’t quite get it.
I own and operate a small coffeehouse.  One that serves food — light fare.  [...]

Weekend Special

I found some really wonderful smoked salmon…and just couldn’t pass it by.  So tomorrow’s special is your choice of bagel with cream cheese, smoked salmon, thinly sliced onion, tomato, and capers…with a small coffee, for $8.99.  Bon appetit!

Pigtown Throws a Fabulous Party!

Never let it be said that we can’t party with the best of ‘em here in Pigtown.  Tonight’s Ville de Cochon fundriaser for Mainstreets was a smashing success!  I can honestly say, without a doubt, this was the single-most enjoyable cocktail party I’ve ever attended.  The food was divine — and don’t get me wound [...]
